In the field of furniture surface coating, the latest significant technological development can be considered to be that of excimers. Although well known to operators in the sector, above all for the performance that surfaces treated in this way can offer, the principles on which this new technology is based are perhaps a little more elusive. In this article, we briefly explain what excimer coatings are, what excimer lamps are used for, their application in panel coating, and their potential advantages and disadvantages.
Wood products constitute a “reservoir” of non-fossil carbon throughout the product’s life cycle.
Within the CEN (European Committee for Standardization), the standard “ UNI EN 16449 Wood and wood-based products – Calculation of the non-fossil carbon content of wood and conversion to carbon dioxide” has been published for several years now. Its purpose is to assess the amount of CO2 sequestered/absorbed by a wooden element through photosynthesis processes. The absorbed carbon dioxide is fixed in the wood as non-fossil, biogenic carbon, which is then transferred to the manufactured product. These data can also be considered the starting point for environmental product declarations.
In this article, we illustrate the main changes made to the reference standards for tables for domestic and non-domestic use, analyzing them separately: EN 12521 for tables for domestic use and EN 15372 for tables for non-domestic use.
