Description
It is pinkish brown, hard, heavy, and has no particular uses given the small size the plant reaches.
Plant morphology
It can grow either as a tree (no taller than 7 m) or as a shrub. It has reddish-brown bark, fissured and scaly in adult specimens. The crown is deciduous, spreading, with ovate or elliptical leaves with tapered tips and serrated edges. The flowers, which open in March-April before or at the same time as the leaves, are white or slightly pink, arranged singly on short petioles.

Southwest Asia: Pontic species with range centered around the Black Sea.
Habitat and ecology
Naturalized archaeophyte species, typical of mesophilous broadleaf woodland, it grows from the plain up to 800 m, on any substrate as long as it is well-drained.

It is occasionally used for small turning jobs.
